With such excellent road and train connections it is tempting to fly to Frankfurt Airport and use the city as a base for exploring more of Hesse and its neighbouring states of Franconia and Baden Württemberg. The historic cities of Mainz, Wiesbaden, Darmstadt, Heidelberg, Würzburg and Karlsruhe can be reached with a fairly short drive.

The exciting city of Cologne with its world famous cathedral, carnival and many other attractions can also be reached by a one hour train journey on the InterCity Express fast train link. Parking in Cologne can be a problem, so going to the city by train or bus is advisable.
