The airport authority and the company Flughafen Hamburg GmbH, responsible for the management of Hamburg Airport, have negotiated strict quality criteria with the various taxi companies operating out of Hamburg Airport.

Only taxis Hamburg Airport qualifying for and giving their agreement to the airport management company’s requirements and stipulations are permitted to carry on their business. Drivers carry an authorisation card, which shows they are licensed to transport passengers from the airport to other destinations in Hamburg and beyond.

Safety is paramount and vehicles are regularly inspected, serviced and, if necessary, replaced with a new taxi car.

Hamburg Airport taxis are not permitted to refuse transporting passengers in, what are known as local tariff areas or Pflichtfahrgebiete. Taxi fares are strictly regulated and typically a basic fee of 2.00 to 3.00 Euros will apply, to which 1.00 Euro is added for every kilometre of the total journey.

Official taxis Hamburg Airport will carry a TAXI sign on the car roof and the name of the taxi operators will be clearly displayed on the sides of the vehicle alongside their contact details. It’s a good idea to ask the driver for a business card, if a return journey by taxi is envisaged or if taxi services are needed during the stay in the city. German taxi fares are charged by taxi, not per passenger, so families or friends travelling together should bear this in mind, before spending money on bus or train tickets.

Hamburg has many green spaces inviting for a stroll after lunch.
