Getting to Munich AirportThe airport is only a short distance from the city centre and a variety of public transport options allow arrivals and departures at Munich Airport easy access from Munich itself, the surrounding towns and villages as well as other parts of Germany. Getting to Munich Airport by Train A vast rail network criss-crosses Germany and many airports, like Munich for example, have metro links to the main train lines. In Terminal 1 passengers will find the entrance to the metro train station (S-Bahn). There are two stops within the airport, one underneath the central terminal area and the other metro station serves the Visitor Park (Stop “Besucherpark”), a recreational area within the airport compound that is popular with day visitors and passengers alike. The station also serves to connect airport employees with the administrative, cargo and airport maintenance buildings that are dotted around the airport complex. Passengers with cars can leave their cars in the long-term parking facilities by the Visitors’ Park. The metro train lines S1 and S8 connect with the long-term parking areas via the Visitor Park train stop and it takes roughly 45 minutes to get from the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) in Munich’s city centre to the airport’s Terminal 1 central area. From the main train station passengers can connect to all major cities in Germany, but before they get to the main train station, they can even connect to other parts of Bavaria at Freising, one of the first stops before reaching the airport. The Freising train station connects with some of Bavaria’s most important cities, but also has train connections to Prague in the Czech Republic. Getting to Munich Airport by Bus Passengers should take bus service MVV line 635, if they travel to Munich Airport from Freising Old Town. The bus service stops outside the metro station and it takes only 20 minutes to get to the airport. Travellers staying in any one of the airport hotels can travel by the hotels’ own shuttle services free of charge to the airport. There is also a Lufthansa shuttle bus that runs at regular intervals into central Munich and back to the airport. The service is available between 5.10 am and 7.50 pm. A number of city busses also connect the airport with the city centre. The bus stops are just outside the terminals. Getting to Munich Airport by Car From Munich drivers should take the A9 and A92 motorways towards Deggendorf and head towards the airport after the Neufarn interchange. From the A92 the airport is signposted and exit Nordallee leads directly to the long-term parking facilities at P51 and P53. A bus service takes motorists from the long-term parking facility to the terminal buildings. The Bundestrasse is a dual carriageway that will take motorists via the B11 or B13 from Mittlerer Ring (central ring road) in Munich to the airport, as it connects to the A92. Motorists from Deggendorf, Landshut, Dingolfing and Passau should take the A92, but taking the Erding exit) to get to the airport or should head to the A92, using the Freising-Mitte exit from Passau, travelling first via the B388 or the A94 towards Munich. |
