Getting to Nürnberg Airport

Germany’s Nürnberg Airport in Bavaria is located 5 km from Nuremberg’s city centre. Bavaria’s second busiest airport after Munich Airport provides some 60 domestic and European destinations for departures and arrivals at Nürnberg Airport.

German and international airlines operating out of Nürnberg Airport are carriers like Air Berlin, Air France, Belle Air, Condor, KLM, Lufthansa and Eurowings to name but a few. They offer flight destinations such as Frankfurt, Fuerteventura, Hamburg, Munich, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Berlin, Thessaloniki, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Malaga, Olbia, Amsterdam or Zurich for example.

Getting to Nürnberg Airport is easy and convenient as the airport is well connected by air, road, rail and other public transport. Germany’s extensive motorway network allows motorists to reach Nuremberg Airport from many major cities and regional towns. The motorways A3, connecting with motorway A9 and motorways A6 and A73 allow drivers to get to Nürnberg Airport with ease.

A taxi rank is situated just outside the terminal buildings where arrivals and departures at Nürnberg Airport can be collected or dropped off at the arrivals hall or the two departure halls in the three interconnected terminals. A typical trip from Nuremberg’s city centre to the airport will cost around EUR 16.00 for the 15 minute journey.

Nuremberg’s main train station in the centre of the city connects passengers with cities like Erlangen, Bamberg, Karlsruhe, Munich, Frankfurt and Stuttgart. There are luggage lockers on the ground floor of the station compound, where passengers can lock up their luggage for a couple of days, if they wish to travel from Nuremberg Airport to other parts of Germany or abroad. A small charge, payable in cash, will secure the lockers.

Getting to Nürnberg Airport by train using Germany’s extensive rail network is convenient, fast and reliable. Excellent discounts on rail travel make this method of public transport very affordable. Clean, efficient trains and well designed railway stations in the centres of large cities allow visitors to travel around Bavaria and the rest of Germany with ease and comfort.

Getting to Nürnberg Airport by metro line U-Bahn 2 is also quick and easy from the city centre, where most of the hotels are based. The metro service connects the airport with the city centre and the journey takes just 12 minutes from either the main train station or the historic city centre.

At the airport motorists will find more than 9,000 car parking spaces for long and short-term parking at the airport. There are numerous parking lots and car parking garages, all of which are located in close proximity to the three terminal buildings.

Hiring a car for a visit to Nuremberg and the lovely surrounding countryside is a good idea. Blessed with many castles and historic monuments, Nuremberg and the nearby towns of Augsburg, Bamberg and Erlangen promise tourists some unforgettable days out.

There are several car rental companies such as Avis, Hertz, Europcar and Sixt, which operate rental desks in Nürnberg Airport’s arrivals hall. At the end of a rental contract passengers with a rental car to return should hand back their keys and documents to the rental desk in the arrivals hall.

Getting to Nürnberg Airport by bus is also easy, as bus line service 32, which leaves at regular intervals during the day from 5.00 am and midnight, connects the city centre with the airport. Long distance coaches stop right outside the main train station from which the line 32 service can take passengers to the airport.
