Buses to and from Munich Airport (MUC)

Munich Airport is one of Europe’s busiest airports with some 100,000 passengers arriving and departing every day. In fact, Munich Airport is Germany’s second busiest airport after Frankfurt.

Passengers looking for cost effective methods of onward travel, once they arrive at the airport, should head for the bus stops at the P53 parking lot, which is located just outside the terminal buildings. The main bus stop for buses from Munich Airport can be found outside the Munich Airport Centre, which is located by Terminal 1 and 2.

There’s also a bus stop by the vacationers’ parking area P41, by the Visitors’ Park, at Terminal 1 Module A/B and Terminal 2.

An airport shuttle bus stop is located in front of Terminal 1 at Area A and Area Z, the Zentralbereich or Central Area of the airport. This Munich Airport shuttle bus will take passengers to the North, East and West entrances of the airport as well as stopping outside the ICM Congress Centre, an important event and trade fair venue.

Munich Airport buses connect the airport with the city centre and destinations beyond. Some buses head straight for some of Bavaria’s most popular tourist destinations, historic cities like Augsburg or Regensburg for example. The more modest city buses from Munich Airport will take passengers to city centre locations like the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) or the Munich Trade Fair Centre, a regular venue for international and domestic trade shows. Other Munich Airport buses run at regular intervals to residential parts of the city, such as the lines MVV 512 and MVV 507, which transport passengers to Schwaig.

Buses from Munich Airport usually run every 15 to 20 minutes, but passengers having just missed their bus connection can relax for a short while in one of the many cafes or buy a freshly baked Pretzel at one of the bakeries located in the terminals.

Munich Airport buses start their daily run at 5.10 am and finish their service at 7.50 pm. Tickets can be purchased from the driver, when boarding the bus. A single ticket will cost around EUR 10.50, while a return ticket will cost EUR 16.00. Children’s tickets for kids between 6 to 14 will cost EUR 5.50 for a single ticket.

Depending on the time of day one travels the journey will take around 40 minutes, although Munich Airport busses travelling to Munich North, another residential area, will only take 25 minutes.

Services from Munich Airport to the Trade Fair Centre will run every 30 minutes. A ticket for a single journey costs EUR 7.50 and the journey will take about 45 minutes.

Long distance coaches and buses from Munich Airport that serve Ingolstadt for example will leave every 90 minutes and a one-way journey will cost EUR 16.50. It takes just over one hour to get to Ingolstadt. Regensburg tickets cost EUR 29.00 for a single journey. There are a number of discounts available, especially for families.

The information desk at the Central Area / Zentralbereich can help passengers who wish to travel via Munich Airport buses to tourist destinations like the Tyrol mountains or across the border into Austria. Buses also leave at regular intervals for the ski resorts in the Alps.
